Is Amazon bad?
So loads of amazon bashing going on but if we think amazon as a normal highly driven company other than a pure play internet company then are they really that bad?
I spent times at numerous investment banks and know many people at large normal corporates. These people work stupid hours, fly any where and every where at the top of the hat and basically get driven likes slaves. But they get well paid and learn loads and do it for a few years.
The reason we are all upset about Amazon is because we think they are a internet company but they are not they are a normal sales and logistics company with a web site. They also have small margins and huge turnover, plus customers who expect everything to arrive really quickly. Plus they make little profit. This is not Google/Facebook etc who have few staff and a virtual product that prints money whilst they sleep.
The staff needed to run logistics company are operations like people who execute 24 hours per day. They are not fluffy creative types who have to have space to create ideas and as such having table tennis and massages to help make them feel better and be more creative.
I worked in operational type companies such as Amazon and it is not for me hence I have created a fluffy company and we are currently reviewing how soft and easy we can make the company environment to allow the creative juices to flow:)
